ASPEN SUMMER WORDS
How To Apply |
|
We are accepting applications to the 2009 Writing
Retreat and Literary Festival, starting February 1, through April. The number of places —
for the non-juried workshops especially — are
limited, so we encourage early application and registration.
Online Application and Registration
All admissions and registration are handled online, complementing our existing online box office for ticket and pass sales.
Here’s how the process works:
Writing Retreat Juried Workshops {5 days}
Applications are accepted February 1 through April 1, and on a space-available basis thereafter.
Requirements for online submission:
| |
1. Basic Application,
including waiver |
| |
2. Writing Sample (an MS Word or Adobe PDF document
of up to 10 single-sided,
double-spaced, typewritten pages) |
| |
3. Payment by credit card of non-refundable $25 reading fee |
The writing sample, or manuscript, is by far the most important
element of your application. Please submit a sample of your
best work, written in the genre to which you are applying
(i.e. submit poems for poetry workshop). This does not need
to be — or better yet, should not be —
what you plan to work on during Aspen Summer Words. Rather,
your manuscript should be your most polished piece of writing
to date. Again, please keep your manuscript to 10 pages,
which is the absolute maximum our jury will review.
The schedule allows for each student to attend
one workshop only. However, to increase your admission
prospects, you may apply to more than one workshop
by ranking your workshop preferences during the online application process. If you are planning on applying to different genres,
please contact Education Programs Coordinator, Jordan
Dann at 970.925.3122, ext. 4#.
Upon acceptance, a non-refundable deposit of half-tuition is required to secure your spot. This is payable by credit card only. On May 26 we will charge your credit card the balance of the 2nd half of the tuition.
Scholarships
Writing Retreat First-Come, First-Served Programs
{2 and 5 days}
Registration opens on February 1 and is handled on a
first-come, first-served basis.
Requirements for online submission:
Students may attend more than one 2-day program (as long
as the dates do not conflict), but the schedule does not
permit attending a 2-day symposium/class and a 5-day workshop.
No manuscript is necessary; registration is by postmark,
not by jury.
Full tuition payment is required at the time of registration.
No scholarships are available for non-juried programs.
Literary Festival Passes {5 days}
Registration opens on February 1 and is on a first-come,
first-served basis.
Requirements for online submission:
Participants may attend both the Literary Festival and
any Writing Retreat program. The two components are designed
to complement each other; there are no scheduling conflicts.
No manuscript is necessary. Registration is on a first-come,
first-served basis.
Full pass payment is required at the time of registration.
No scholarships are available, although Retreat students
receive a $50 discount when they register for both a workshop
or class and a Literary Festival Individual Pass.
Disability Accommodation
If you are a person with a disability requiring reasonable accommodations in order to participate in this program, please contact Jordan Dann (see below) with your needs so we know in advance how we may best assist you.
