How To Apply
|
“There are writers' festivals all over the world but the Aspen Writers’ Foundation is special. There is such a richness and variety in the events offered you will hardly know where to begin, but whatever you choose you will know you are partaking of the best.”
— Frank McCourt,
Pulitzer Prize-winning author of Angela’s Ashes

Now celebrating its 32nd year, Aspen
Summer Words is a pioneering writing retreat featuring
hands-on instruction with some of today’s most
celebrated authors and educators. What sets this writers’
conference apart is simple: the Aspen Writers’
Foundation helps writers develop their craft by providing
a winning combination of inspiration, knowledge and
opportunity. And this triple whammy takes place in
the world-class, small town of Aspen — a backdrop
that has all the beauty of a national park and, during
Aspen Summer Words, all the charm of your favorite
bookstore.
Creating a Literary Community
Suddenly your world as a writer — and goodness knows
that world can be a pretty lonely place — will become
a whole lot more friendly. Aspen Summer Words is a community
that supports and engages writers. You will be among aspiring
and established writers who share a kinship for the written
word, and who happen to know you by name. With the Writing
Retreat’s welcoming staff, intimate workshops, convivial
gatherings and direct access to authors, it’s easy
to envision your road to becoming an author. Think of
Aspen Summer Words as the map.

instruction from faculty who are as highly regarded for
their writing as for their teaching; an intimate learning
